Introduction to Tsinghua Shenzhen International Graduate School

In April 2001, the Tsinghua University Graduate School at Shenzhen (Tsinghua Shenzhen International Graduate School, named Tsinghua SIGS, after March 29, 2019) was established by Tsinghua University and the city of Shenzhen, in Xili University Town, Nanshan District, Shenzhen. It is part of Tsinghua University. As the only such institution managed by the school, it has been at the front lines of experimental education reform at Tsinghua University. It has become an important part of one of the world’s leading universities, and has several unique features; for example, development of international, multi-disciplined, and innovative human resources, construction of courses that bridge various fields, excellent teachers who are innovative, combination of politics, production, research, and funding, and technology transfer.

As of December 2021, the program has 4,677 full-time students (3,974 Master’s and 702 PhD students). Its faculties address key industries and strategic emerging industries of Shenzhen. In addition, there are plans to establish a Faculty of New Energy, an initiative vigorously supported by the city of Shenzhen. The total site area of the graduate school is about 200,600 m2, and the building area is 183,900 m2. New innovative buildings are under construction for marine research, energy and environment, cutting-edge photoelectricity and advanced production, and internet technology. The Marine Research Building and the Energy and Environment Building (in which CRECET is located) are already operational (see photo below).
